Spines with four raised bands, gilt and black lines, gilt title. Marbled endpapers. The rare first edition, with the map of India, of this series of letters from this famous French botanist and explorer, written during his voyage, on board the French reseach vessel Zelée, to India up to his tragic death at the age of only 31 years. Bookplate of the French carcinologist Jacques Forest on the front pastedowns. Front board of the first volume and spine of second volume detached; some light spotting, but otherwise in a very good condition.
