Hardcover bound in original blue publisher's cloth with spine titles in gilt and cover designs in blind. The binding is worn and bumped and has some fraying and tearing at the spine ends. A couple of nicks on the spine are touched up with blue. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. Appears to have two identical facsimile title pages tipped in (consequently lacking the original title; the frontis is NOT in facsimile). The text has some moderate foxing throughout. An early owner's blind stamped name is on the first page of the text. There is a folding newspaper article pasted onto the rear pastedown. Collates complete with all illustrations, including the frontis. A scarce volume of 19th century humor looking at the people and stories of Surry County, North Carolina. The genealogical information seems to focus on Virginia and North Carolina.

There is also a little damping at the top edge of the rear endpapers which does not affect the text. A sound copy. There is a two-page Index at the rear.

Paris: F. Bechet and A. Egron, 1817. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavos. xxx, 403, [2]; 394, [2] pages. Hardcovers bound in dark green half leather with marbled paper-covered boards. The bindings show some wear but are quite sound with sturdy hinges. The rear hinge on Volume 1 is scuffed with the untreated leather exposed. There is a white scuff mark on the front cover of Volume 1 at the bottom left corner. Bindings tight. Marbled endpapers. The text is a little toned and has some occasional foxing, but overall the text appears clean. Half title to Volume 1 appears to be a little loose. SIGNED Bechet (one of the publishers) on the verso of the title page to authenticate this edition as not being a pirated edition. Text is in French. A translation of the title into English is, "The Colonies and the Present Revolution of America.
