Foxing of the top of the text block. Foxing of the verso of the dust jacket, with a 0.75 in. tear central to the top of the rear panel, sun browning of the backstrip, and the top edges. The author's wide knowledge of the Boswell papers has helped him give a vivid portayal of the courageous and charming young man who crossed pirate infested seas to visit the country generally regarded as barbarous and who, on his return did all he could to promote the Corsican cause among influential people in Britain.
