In his teenage years he travelled to Mexico and settled in Madrid from 1897. He was Professor of aesthetics at the Academy of fine arts of San Fernando. He is known as one of the bohemian poets both for the extravagance of his appearance (with a scruffy beard of almost half a meter) and his extravagant lifestyle in Madrid. This story is based around the ?Court of Miracles? in Paris where beggars populate a square during the day feigning blindness and other disabilities. When night falls however they miraculously recover and live a life of debauchery on the proceeds of their duplicity. The novel is the first of a series of writings about Spanish history from Queen Elizabeth?s era and the parallel is drawn between her court and the ?Court of Miracles?. This is a NEAR FINE copy with annotations & minimal shelf wear reducing it to GD+*
