Sobre este artículo
Paris: Grange, Guillyn, Desnos, 1765. Book. Illus. by 54 Hand Colored Maps. Fine. Full-Leather. Later Printing of the First Edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. RARE ATLAS of FRANCE. A later printing of the 1765 first edition. Although the title page still says 1765, this has three maps not in the first edition as well as a Gravure double a Monsiere Cassini de Thury Seigneur de Villetaneuse. It has all the 29 analytical maps of the first edition, but 14 have been improved and are dated 1766. These maps divide France according to public and private institutions or services, various geographical and political divisions, but also military, ecclesiastical, juridical, geneaological, commencial and financial divisions. The atlas includes three coastal maps of French shoreline. Several of the analytical maps and all sea charts were drawn by Rizzi Zannoni, and the road maps by Michel, Royal geographer, both under the direction of Louis Charles Desnos. The road maps of France include the route from Amsterdam to Marseilles, the English Channel with a corner of England, and the route from Strasburg to Wienne (Vienna). There are 19 road maps, 11 redrawn from the first printing and dated 1766. Most have broad ornamental borders and all are attractively hand colored.. The double page view of the Place de la Concorde in Paris is missing from this copy; there is no index but it must be assumed that it has been removed. Also missing is a double page, Le Petit Neptune Francois title, although the three coastal maps are present, and also a large folding engraved map of France by Croisey after Rizzi Zannoni. Recently bound in full dark brown calf, with blind-stamped triple filets on both boards. Red painted edges. Double silk endpapers and double fine combed endpapers. Hand sewn headbands. The original spine with raised bands and richly decorated gilt has been laid on the backstrip. Protected in a linen, conservation clamshell box. Beautifully bound by one of Canada's leading binders. Images and full description of the additional titles and texts are available on request..
