Sobre este artículo

[N.p., n.p.,] April 5, [1779], 5177. See the ODNB for Sheridan and Henderson. In fine condition.. Small ticket, 7.5 x 12 cm, printed in red, on the recto only, window-mounted on paper stock. Initialed by Sheridan in the lower right corner. In the mid 1750s, actor Thomas Sheridan (1719-1788) began delivering a series of public lectures on spoken English to promote his published discourses on the English language, education, theater and his second career as a orthoepist and educator. His lectures were occasionally delivered in collaboration with others, as is the case with this example of a lecture he gave with fellow actor John Henderson (bap. 1747-d.1785) on "A Course of English Reading." The two had previously collaborated on a series entitled "Practical Method of Reading and Writing English Poetry," and some years later on another slightly different series. Hickford's Great-Room was a famous West End concert hall, which hosted performances by Scarlatti and Mozart, among others. It closed in 1779 (Wikipedia), and though the ticket does not identify the year of the lecture, Monday the 5th of April would have been in 1779, Hickford's Great-Room's final year of operation.

Sobre The Brick Row Book Shop

The Brick Row Book Shop, founded in 1915, is one of the oldest antiquarian book firms in the United States. We're located a block from Union Square in downtown San Francisco, and are open by appointment Monday-Friday. The engraving by T. Diedricksen is of the Shop as it was shortly after its founding in New Haven, Connecticut.
