Near Fine/No Jacket. 3 Volumes complete, 8vo., xviv(4)398pp, .xiii(4)393pp., xii(3)537)pp. Sharp Second Edition after the two-volume First originally published in 1849. Beautifully bound in contemporary 3/4 brown morocco over marbled paper-covered boards. Raised bands with six gilt-boarded compartments with title, author and volume number in gilt in 2nd and 3rd. Gilt decoration on heel. t.e.g. Marbled end-papers. Illustrated with tissue-guarded frontis portraits in each volume and a total of 18 full-page steel engravings . All volumes are square, tight and clean throughout with no foxing. Edges, hinges, and tips very mildly rubbed. Spines with just a hint of toning. Small, modern, neat ownership signature and stamp on front end-papers of each volume. A gorgeous collectable set.
