The introduction by Denis Stevens is printed in English and German.<p>English composer Richard Dering [c. 1580-1630] is best known for his four sets of "Cantiones sacrae". When he came to London he heard for the first time the traditional cries of the merchants and street vendors. He wove them into a kind of musical tapestry, adding in some traditional tunes and some short songs composed for this work. "Cries of London" was never pubished but survived in manuscript.
