Set against the landscapes of ancient China, this romantic epic drama follows two intertwined love stories between two of China’s great warriors and two younger people from different classes. The film won several Oscars, including Best Foreign Language Film (Taiwan), Best Cinematography (Peter Pau), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Music, Original Score (Tan Dun). It was also nominated for Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, and Best Music, Original Song.
