Boards are free from majory flaws, other than standard shelf wear. Pages 3-14 are separated from the binding, but are present. Pages are clean and bright, with binding generally sound. Bound in original brick red cloth with gilt lettering and hunting/fishing insignia and image of a teepee on front board. Boards edgeworn and scuffed, small area of dampstain visible on rear endpapers, abrasion to front free endpaper where a label was removed. Binding sound, text clean. Shields (1846-1925) wrote extensively on sporting topics under the pen-name Coquina before establishing Recreation: A Monthly Magazine Devoted to Everything the Name Implies in 1894. Between 1897 and 1902, he was head of the Campfire Club of America. Light library marks on fly leaf mild and light occasional foxing to verso of the plates very clean and tight. With Flower pattern end papers adorned with 2 newspaper clippings with very amusing little stories "Just Wonderful"
