Burgundy coloured boards with gilt embossed publisher's logo to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Nominally a popular protest at the assassination of a German diplomat in Paris by a a young Jewish man, but, in fact was a government-inspired pogrom in reaction to boycotts by the British and US of German goods. Synagogues were burned and hundreds of Jews were sent to detention camps– this was the intensifying of the Nazi regime's clamping down on Jewish businesses and people . Rubbing of the book edges. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Previous owner's blind stamp "stamp" to the lower right-hand corner of the title page of Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels. There is a 4 inch tear to the left hand corner of the front panel which arcs into the body of the front panel; creasing accompanies the tear. Sunning of the back strip and rear panel.
