The copy of the prominent anarchist art critic Herbert Read (1893-1968), with his pencilled ownership signature dated February 1915 to the front free endpaper. Max Weber (1881-1961) is the Jewish-American artist generally credited with introducing European avant-garde movements, including primitivism and cubism, to the American art scene. Cubist Poems collects 38 poems written while he lectured in art history at the Clarence H. White School for Photography, and is introduced by the photographer Alvin Langdon Coburn (1882-1966), to whom the book is also dedicated. A limited issue of 100 deluxe copies was also published. Duodecimo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine and front cover in gilt, tree design to front cover in gilt, top edge trimmed, others untrimmed. Spine a little sunned, minor wear at extremities, very faint foxing in plates but overall clean internally. A very good copy.
