First edition of this collection, with a title story predicting the submarine warfare strategy of the first World War and a preface by Doyle noting its composition 18 months before that war began. 7'' x 4.25''. Original red cloth. 246 pages. Though no provenance markings, this copy from the library of noted actor and Sherlockian Curtis Armstrong. Light foxing to edges of text block and scattered throughout. Pencil name to front endpaper. Faint staining, light wear to boards. Rear hinge cracking (still firm). Spine sunned.
