Sobre este artículo

NY: American Tract Society. Very Good with no dust jacket; Light rubbing to boards, spine cocked, . spine cracked, one dog-eared page.. 1910. First Edition. Hardcover. Introduction by Rev. A. F. Schauffler. Red cloth with chromolithograph illustration onlaid to front boards from photograph of the smartly dressed author with a scruffier man and woman seated in front of him. Many interior black and white photographs. The author relates his early years growing up on "Dutch Row" in Hudson, New Jersey, where his sampling during his thrice-daily errand to fetch his grandfather pints of mixed ale led to his self-professed "drunkard's habit" at the tender age of ten. He led a life of burglary, vagrancy, homelessness, and served a two-year prison term, ending up "down and out" on New York City's Bowery row, living in various flophouses. His life turned around when he received help from a missionary outreach worker, and Ranney became sober in 1892. He ended up reuniting with his estranged wife and son and doing mission work himself. He has many photos of residents in the New York City beer halls, lodging-houses, and on the streets. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 205 pages .
