Limited edition. c.1773 as Balders D¿d [historically the English translation "The Death of Balder" is listed as 1889]. "An Edition of 250 Copies only will be printed. No more will be published.". Rebound by KTB in brown half calf over marbled boards; five raised bands with extra leather titles, tooled gilt decoration, matching marbled end papers, t.e.g. 12mo (19.2x12.9cm). pp. [iv] blank, [viii], 77, [5] blank. Explanation of the Mythological Words and Names. About Very Good. Edgewear with corners and joints rubbed, darkened spine with extra leather spine titles missing (with clear stamping remaining); internally very good with foxed spots on 31 pages. Collie & Fraser B.8a with "The Persons" (not dramatis personae) on p. [viii] and no date on the title page making this the one that got away in spite of the elaborate erasing of the 1889 to put the 1892 in? From the library of Micajah Pratt Clough (1848-1933) with bookplate (Brainerd 66, 1896: 1.75 by 3.25-inches) designed by Edwin Davis French (1851-1906) affixed to front pastedown. [Clough was a shoe manufacturer on Broad Street in Lynn Massachusetts and member of the Lynn Historical Society. This was one of the two bookplates commissioned from French, the other was Brainerd 51 the year before]. A play in three acts, set in the Norwegian mountains, with The [principal] Persons: Balder, Thor, Loke, Hother, Nanna, The Three Valkyrier. Ewald is a celebrated Danish lyric poet and playwright, and the first to use Norse Mythology in his writing..
