New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1935. First edition. Hardcover. 304pp. Duodecimo [19 cm] Brown cloth covered boards with gilt stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Orange topstain. Mild spine roll; neat gift inscription on the front free endpaper. In a dust jacket, with moderate rubbing and creasing to the edges. The rear panel and the flaps are subtly toned, and there are several very minor stains on the rear panel. One can see the faint trace of a numerical notation (in blind) on the front panel. With the typo "rer" for "her" on p. 59. From the dust jacket- "These stories reveal in Mr. Wolfe qualities as a writer unsuspected by the thousands who have read his longer works. They show what perfection he can achieve within a restricted compass- especially noticeable in some of the five and six page stories here included, which for economy and precision of style are unsurpassed.
Sinopsis
Wolfe's third published book, and his first of short stories, this collection contains his popular "Only the Dead Know Brooklyn," written in a Brooklyn dialect.
