An early expose on opium and its affect on people who use it, with details of the author's experiences while visiting Chinatown, and its opium dens; with his commentary on the habits of "Women Who Smoke," "A Day in an Opium Asylum," and chapters on "An American Palace Joint," Cravings on the Road," "Victims in the Dramatic Profession," plus "A Chapter on Legislation," among others.
