Small owner ticket of Edith Guerrier (1870-1958), noted librarian and writer. After her mother's death, she settled with her mother's family in New Bedford, Mass. The family was active in the literary circle of Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott and other major figures of the New England literary world. An important figure in the world of women and print. Six full page b/w photographic plates. Uncommon generally, rather scarce in the condition found here. Smith, Merrymount Bibliography, p209. Minor shelf/edge wear, discrete ownership ticket at bottom of title page (see below), else tight, bright, and unmarred. Cream paper wraps, black ink lettering and decorative elements, stitched binding. 12mo. 24pp. Illus. (b/w plates).

Binding jsut slightly loosened, but sound. Laid in is an autograph note on Merrymount Press stationery SIGNED by Daniel Berkeley ("D. B.") Updike: "C. D. Allen Esq, with the compliments of D. B. Updike." Uncommon thus.
