This one of only 21 subscribers copies on large paper, this copy for George Douglas of Carvers with his book plate to each front pastedown. Bound in period rolled calf, with gilt spined; vol I rebacked preserving much of the original spine. 29x23cms. Raspe's monumental catalogue of Tassie's casts of cameos and intaglios is still, after 220 years, an essential tool for establishing the history and provenance of engraved gems. Text in English and French.
