Der dritte Band zum kurpfalzischen Humanismus innerhalb der Reihe ?Europa Humanistica? versammelt vier Autoren von unterschiedlichem editorischem Profil. Jacobus Micyllus (1503-1558), der bedeutende neulateinische Lyriker und Reformator der Universitat Heidelberg, wird hier erstmals ausfuhrlich als Philologe vorgestellt. Seine Ovid-Ausgabe (1543), zu der er als Vorarbeit Quellenwerke der antiken Mythologie publizierte, war zwei Jahrhunderte lang ein europaweiter Bestseller. Er ubertrag die in der Ausgabe des Erasmus von Rotterdam fehlenden Schriften Lucians ins Lateinische, wobei er den Autor gegen den Vorwurf der Sittenlosigkeit verteidigte. Aus Micyllus? Feder stammen auch die ersten deutschen Ubersetzungen von Teilen des Livius und des gesamten historischen Werks von Tacitus. Johannes Posthius (1537-1597) und Johannes Opsopoeus (1556-1596) vertreten bei unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten den Typus des Arzt-Philologen. Ersterer, auch als Dichter bekannt, vermittelte nicht nur das Werk des agyptischen Mediziners Isaacus Iudaeus (9./10. Jahrhundert), sondern popularisierte auch die Werke Asops und Ovids. Letzterer veroffentlichte u.a. eine Hippokrates-Ausgabe und argumentierte ? wohl als erster ? fur die grosstenteils nachchristliche Entstehung der ?Oracula Sibyllina?. Wissenschaftliches Neuland wird zum grossten Teil mit der Prasentation des Abraham Scultetus (1566-1622) beschritten. Der wegen seiner politisch fatalen Rolle als Heidelberger Hofprediger bekannte Theologe gewinnt hier erstmals klare Konturen als uberaus produktiver Exeget, Ubersetzer und Editor. Besonderer Bedeutung kommt seiner ?Medulla patrum? zu, einem Grundlagenwerk reformierter Kirchenvaterforschung und -kritik. Language : German, Latin, Greek.

We will choose the most cost-effective shipment option, depending on the weight: either letter post or parcel post.
