The front board in full colour. Green cloth spine. In the rare original dustwrapper which is split along the spine and in two pieces, held together by a wrapper protector. Thumb sized piece missing from the middle of the spine and front panel but overall the wrapper is in very good condition. A rare survivor.:

Near fine copy, beautifully illustrated with 12 full colour, tipped in plates, each with a printed tissue guard. Scores of wonderful line illustrations throughout text. Original dark green cloth, the front board with gilt illustration and lettering. The spine has gilt ruling and lettering. Previous owners neat inscription, dated "Xmas 1929" on front paste down endpaper. Overall a fine, bright and clean copy of this beautiful book.

First thus, though title page notes "forming a new and considerably enlarged edition of Macdonnel's Dictionary Of Quotations". In general good order throughout. Pages lightly toned with only very occasional marks, title page a little more so. Block marbled to all edges. Marbled endpapers opening a little at front hinge, though binding firm and tight. Bookplate to ifc. Full leather, worn to edges and darkened to part of spine. Small loss from leather title label. A nice copy of a rare item. 12mo. 308pp

Marbled endpapers. Tight binding. Foxing only on pages with engravings - engravings not affected. All other pages are clean.

I.N. Kushnerev & Ko., Moskva (Moscow), 1892. Printed boards, no dust jacket. Good /No Jacket. A well-used copy of the rare first edition of a popular Russian flora. The author was Piotr Feliksovich Maevsky (1851-1892). Significant edgewear to cover, internally sound with minimal tanning of paper. Owner's signature and oil spot on ffep (M. Kirshbaum?), another on end paper (V. Rikovshky?) with oaktree bookplate of Heino Ross. Spine sl. frayed at top edge, some insect damage to glued areas. The text contains keys to genera and species, generic descriptions and Russian and Latin names of genera and species, summaries of distribution (by local government region) and habitat, flowering times, and selected line drawings mostly showing both the whole plant and flowers or fruits. A compact yet comprehensive flora which went through several editions, a third (edited by B. Fedchenko) in 1902 and another in 1917, an 8th (with a slightly different title) in 1954 and a 9th (edited by B.K. Shishkin) in 1964.… Leer más

A nicely preserved copy with untrimmed edges, title blind-inscribed (by hand) on spine. xvi, 151, xiv, plate facing p. xv, 153-255 pp. The first Welsh local flora, particularly noted for its appendix of Welsh names of plants.

Printed on hand-made paper and limited to 220 copies (No. 137) signed by the author and unusually also signed by the illustrator, Robert Gibbings. Bookplate on front fixed end-paper. Overall size c.9.1/4 x 6.5/8 inches, c.23.5 x 17 cm. A very good copy indeed.

Text is tanned and clean, folding map has minor archival tape repair and is in very sound condition. Author's descriptions of the country, it's culture, its agriculture including a discussion of the farming of the Ruta Baga. He crtiicizes at length Morris Birkbeck's settlement in Illinois.
