Through the mid-18th-century, large collections of knowledge were relegated to specific areas of study like law, medicine, or religion. However, Denis Diderot's 'Encyclopedie' changed the public's knowledge base as well as setting a standard for future generations of acquiring knowledge on many different subjects. This was the first encyclopedia to include contributions from many different named writers. It also was the first encyclopedia to describe work-related topics like agriculture, engineering, cooking, and trade.

This enormous tome is the complete volume of illustrations from the 1768 edition of Diderot and d'Alembert's famous encyclopedia. 1717 Life of Saint Bruno Eustache le SUEUR Painting Art HUGE FOLIO Engravings
Eustache le Sueur was a well-known 17th-century French artist known for his paintings of saints and church fathers. His most famous works was his series of paintings on the life of Saint Bruno aptly titled 'La Vie de St. Bruno'. After Sueur completed these paintings, they were sold to Louis XVI and were later placed in the Louvre where they still reside today.
These enormous, elephant-folio sized engravings of 'St. Bruno' were engraved by Francois Chauveau who is known to be one of the most desirable engravers for collectors.

1875. An album dated 1875 featuring the work of the "Beehive Club", with over 150 uniform postcard sized watercolour and pen works, gathered into themes. The output of a very talented, most likely youthful, or at the very least gleefully amateur, Victorian sketching club, possibly executed via correspondence, each member being given a brief to work with, and the results being carefully added to the album.The artworks are arranged around a regularly changing theme, often literary, such asworks centered on Longfellow's "Evangeline", or Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe", and sometimes the themed suites are broader and open to interpretation, as in the collection merely entitled "Winter", or the section titled "Ruins."
