Sobre este artículo

London: Privately Printed, 1925. Paperback. Good. 8" by 5.5". Not Stated. A signed presentation copy of Norman Douglas's response to D.H. Lawrence's attack on American travel writer Maurice Magnus, including a signed letter from Douglas to sculptor John Tweed. Flat signed to the title page 'to his friend John Tweed from Norman Douglas, October 1925'. Loosely inserted is a signed letter from Douglas to Tweed, a prominent Scottish sculptor, bearing the same date, in which Douglas states 'you have probably forgotten my existence, but if you ever come here again, I will try to remind you of it'. He discusses his son, Archie, who he claims is 'interested himself in the marble industry with a view to taking it up seriously'. He closes the letter with a post script referring to this work, 'he is bringing you a little pamphlet of mine, which has done rather well so far!'.With a tipped in price slip to the half title, as called for.Norman Douglas wrote this work as a reply to D.H Lawrence's attack on Maurice Magnus in his introduction to 'Memoirs of the Foreign Legion'. Douglas and Lawrence were both friends of Magnus, and Douglas was his literary executor. Lawrence's introduction to the memoir was used to sell the book, but Douglas felt he had maligned his dear friend. This feud between Douglas and Lawrence was long-running and this publication was the first of Douglas's public airings of feuds. In the publisher's original paper wraps. Handling marks to wraps, and discolouration to back strip. Front wrap detaching to head and tail. Tipped in slip to half title. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, but generally clean and bright. With a loosely inserted letter. Good
