London: C. Hitch and L. Hawes et al, 1760. Full-Leather. Good. Improved and augmented with above Ten Thousand Words, omitted in the last Edition of Altieri. To which is added, An Italian and English Grammar." 2 vols. Unpaginated. 27 cm. Full leather with burgundy and green spine labels, raised bands, red text block edges. Front board detached from Volume 1, other hinges tender, thin chips to spine ends, corners bumped. No front free endpaper in vol. 1 and front endpapers loose in vol. 2. Bookplate of Colonel Vesey on both front pastedowns. Ink signatures on title-page include that of Col. Vesey. A typewritten label on vol. 1 front pastedown reads: "From The Library of Mrs. Elisabeth Vesey, 1715-1791. The First of the Blue-Stockings, the Friend of Laurence Sterne, Horace Walpole, Goldsmith, Gray, Sir Joshua Reymolds, Mrs. Montague and the Hostess of Dr. Johnson and the "CLUB".

Guiseppe Baretti (1719-1789), Italian literary critic, lived in London and spent time with Samuel Johnson and his associates. This dictionary is one of Baretti's best-known works along with a dissertation on Shakespeare and Voltaire. Elizabeth Vesey (1715-1791) was a wealthy English intellectual who was credited with fostering the Bluestockings, a society of women which hosted informal literary and political discussions that Johnson and his companions were known to attend. Dedication written by Samuel Johnson.
