Bevelled edge, gilt-lettered coevrs unworn bar very slight corner bumping and clean bar a few small scattered whitish surface marks on back. A comprehensive, if surely often elementary (given chapter lengths sometimes only a dozen or so pp.) survey of everything from the beginnings (Anfange) of literature and that of 'primitive' peoples through ancient Egypt, then via 5 early Middle Eastern traditions, Indian, and Persian, Turkish, Armenian and Georgian literatures to Chinese and Japanese.
