Please note that this is a heavy item and may require extra postage.; Dk brown leather spine; very intact, though a little worn; binding tight. Raised bands. Inked label at head. Muddy-green vellum boards; very intact, though somewhat worn and marked. pp generally quite supple; the title page is peeling apart (ie front and rear are slowly separating), though the page remains intact. A few pp near the front have been repaired -- which affects the text -- (see photos) and are lightly stained in the lower right corner. Woodcuts on the title page and throughout the text. The main text is surrounded by commentary. Justinian, the Eastern Roman Emperor (527-565) was initially highly successful in reclaiming much of the territory in Italy lost to invading Vandals, etc. He also produced a massive digest of the Roman Law, the effects of which can be felt to this day. ; Folio (11" x 17"); 1838 + Tables and Indices pages .
