Sobre este artículo
Rouen: Louys Du Mesnil. Good with no dust jacket. 1633. First Edition. Vellum. [6], 226 [s/b 228], 11-124 pp. Red and black title page. Small octavo in full contemporary vellum. Woodcut text illustrations with drawings of military weapons, diagrams of battle formations, plans of fortifications, engraved title vignette by Blanchin featuring a portrait of King Louis XIII on horseback in battle armor. I count 49 text cuts and 26 full page illustrations in the first volume. Possibly original vellum is crisp, quite browned with old signs of wear, nicely handwritten title on spine in brown ink, top and bottom edges somewhat chipped away but still protecting the book block. Interior book block is pulling away from the vellum but still held by one sewing, first blank has old writing and is quite worn and chipped. Last few pages of the Les Questions Militaires at the end have darkened areas, but otherwise clean and unmarked. Unfortunately missing the last 4 pages of the Les Discours and the first 10 pages (including title) of the Questions. Still, packed with wonderful military engravings and a very scarce little book all together. Quite popular when first written, it went through a number of editions in the 1600s and then was not reprinted until the 1990s. Only 2 auction records in the last 70 years. Not perfect but still enjoyable. Virtually nothing is known of Sieur Du Praissac. There is speculation that he was a Huguenot and his specialty appears to have been artillery and he is particularly interested in tactics. ; Engravings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
