Sobre este artículo
Boston: Walker, Wise, and Company, 1863. First edition. 36 pages. Pamphlet. Approx. 9¼ x 5¾ inches. Publisher's printed wrappers; stitched. Lacking rear wrapper and upper wrapper soiled and chipped at edges; foxing; Good.
Discourse by this Transcendentalist and Boston Unitarian minister on the American Civil War with some remarks on Black Americans and slavery: "And even as regards the rebel States, perhaps it will be found that this war will have a tendency to prepare them for union with us on a firmer foundation than in the years that are passed. If it destroys slavery, it will destroy the only cause of disunion. Slavery abolished and slaveholders converted to emancipation, they will become one with the North in feeling and conviction." (p34) In 1883, Clarke authored Anti-slavery days. A sketch of the struggle which ended in the abolition of slavery in the United States.
After the collapse of the utopian community, Clarke purchases Brook Farm with the intent, but never-realized, goal to begin his own similar venture.
