Hardcover. 4to. 27cm, First Edition, 26p., rebound in quarter brown morocco, raised bands, marbled boards, mansucript paper label, half title slightly dust soiled else fine condition. (cgc) ~ One of fifteen lectures delivered between 1769 and 1790 by the founder and first president of the Royal Academy, Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792). President from 1768 to 1792, his discourses are noted for their sensitivity and perception. This Discourse is particularly a tribute to founding Royal Academy member, Thomas Gainsborough who had died in August, 1788. A scarce copy in attractive modern bindings.
