Sobre este artículo
London, England: Printed for Matthew Turner at the Limb in High-Holborn, 1686. Book. Good Minus. Leather Bound . 1st Edition. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. "Written Originally in French by James Benigne Bossuet, Sometimes Bishop of Condom, and now of Meaux, Counsellor of State to the Most Christian King, Heretofore Tutor to the Dauphin, and now Chief Almoner to the Dauphiness. Faithfully Englished. London, Printed for Matthew Turner at the Limb in High-Holborn, 1686." 565 pp. This appears to be the first English edition of this work, originally published in French in 1682 as Discours sue L'Histoire Universelle. Dedicated to the surviving legitimate son of Louis XIV, whom Bossuet tutored, this work traces God's interaction with Man through history with chapter and verse citations from the Bible printed in the margins. Government, and other religious and civic institutions, are wholly dependent on Divine Law and sanction. Book Condition : Good-; front board detached (bookplate removed from inside cover tearing the marbled paper); foxing is present but pretty limited for its age (there are a few small dark spots scattered throughout); small pieces missing at spine ends and cover corners; wear to cover edges; inscription on one of the front free end papers (same page has a small hole in it) and on the reverse of the title page, but otherwise unmarked. Please feel free to inquire with any questions..
