Dr. Charles Louis Fabri (1899-1968), born in Hungary, first went to India with the archaeologist M. Aurel Stein in 1931 and returned to teach at Tagore's Santiniketan. He settled in India, earning a reputation as linguist, dance and art critic for The Statesman, mentor to generations of artists; he is author also of History of the Art of Orissa and Buddhist Baroque Teracottas of Kashmir.
