Wear at edges, heavy wear at corners, but sound and attractive overall; old monogram to half title. Scattered foxing, mostly to early pages, faint dampstain in the gutter to a few pages else a clean, wide margined copy. x, (vi), 655pp. Though a poet early on, Dissertations is Beattie's most lasting work - the sections entitled on The Theory of Language and On Fable and Romance were especially influential.
