Descripción:
An irregular-shaped piece of vellum (ranging from 40 to 105 mm high × 120 mm wide), the top left-hand corner of a printed vellum document with an attached embossed paper-over-wax seal; undated but 1830-37. Slight discolouration along the top edge; the signature is in excellent condition. In 1811, William 'parted from his mistress, the actor Mrs Dorothea Jordan (1762-1816) who had borne him 10 children. In 1818 he married Adelaide [1792-1849], daughter of the Duke of Saxe-Meiningen' ('Dictionary of World Biography'); the capital city of South Australia is named after her. William IV was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover from 26 June 1830 until his death in 1837. He was known both as the 'Sailor King' and as 'Silly Billy'. The third son of George III, William succeeded his elder brother George IV, becoming the last king and penultimate monarch of Britain's House of Hanover.
