[2 blank], xv, [1 blank], 288, [2 blank] pp. Dedicated to James Gadsden, Francis Wilkinson Pickens, Wade Hampton, and Andrew Butler. Very good in original cloth, with new spine titled in gilt. Text browned and foxed. The prolific and verstaile Robert Wilson Gibbes, a naturalist and physician inter alia, served as the Surgeon General for South Carolina during the Civil War. His home and prized collections were destroyed by federal troops when they occupied Columbia in 1865. Howes G 151.
