HC 1st edition of this, one of the earliest American titles on sporting dogs. In original trade cloth binding embossed in blond to boards and with gilt title vignette to spine. Cloth pulled and frayed at spine ends; corners bumbed with light rub through to cloth. Binding shaken; cords largely broken at front. Engraved half-title nearly loose and several signatures starting. Included blanks at front and rear, half-title and engraved title page, frontis and 3 additional plates. Lacking the Terrier plate. Pastedowns scarred with abrasion and partial loss. Rebacking would do wonders. Expected scattered spotting and foxing. Lacking only 1 plate, otherwise complete. Good only at best .
