Series: Modern Library No. 24. // "A satirical, epic poem which portrays the Spanish folk legend of Don Juan, not as a womaniser as the character is historically portrayed, but as a victim easily seduced by women." // "Lord Byron (1788-1824) was a British poet and writer who is widely considered one of the most important figures in English Romanticism. He was born in London, England, and spent much of his childhood in Scotland. Byron's poetry is characterized by its use of vivid imagery, powerful emotion, and a strong sense of individualism. He wrote extensively about love, beauty, and the power of the imagination, and his work often reflects his own personal struggles with identity, sexuality, and mental health. Some of Byron's most famous works include "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage," "Don Juan," and "She Walks in Beauty." His poetry was widely admired and imitated during his lifetime, and it continues to be studied and celebrated today. In addition to his work as a poet, Byron was also a political activist and a key figure in the Greek War of Independence. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East, and his experiences shaped his poetry and his views on politics and society. Despite his significant contributions to English literature, Byron's personal life was often controversial and scandalous, and he was known for his numerous love affairs and his tumultuous relationships with family and friends. He died in 1824 at the age of 36 while fighting for Greek independence."
