Sobre este artículo
Paris: Hachette & Cie., 1909. Cloth. Very Good. 11" by 7.5". Gustave Dore. A very smart new illustrated edition of the Spanish epic novel Don Quixote, in the French language. French language. Illustrated with frontispiece, twenty-four full page images, and many in-text figures. The Spanish epic novel of Don Quixote, considered a founding work of Western literature and the first modern novel, it is one of the most translated works in the world. The plot follows the adventures of a member of the lowest nobility, Alonso Quijano, who reads so many chivalric romances that he looses his mind and decides to become a knight-errant and serve his nation. Written by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, an Early Modern Spanish writer regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. Illustrated by Gustave Dore, a French printmaker, illustrator, painter, comic artist, caricaturist and sculptor. This book was awarded to Arthur Taylor from the Grammar School in Macclesfield. Taylor was a second lieutenant in the Cheshire Regiment during the First World War. Unfortunately, the last his family heard from the Red Cross was that he was wounded in Germany and had been taken as a prisoner of war. In the original orange cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the edges of the boards. The odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with light age toning to the extremities. School prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Very Good
