Original cloth, rebacked at an early date with portion of original backstrip laid down. Cloth rumpled, stained and worn. Rear joint cracked, front board nearly detached. Contents foxed and somewhat dampstained. Fair. A scarce directory, the NUC locating only three copies (CtY, PPL, KH1) and commenting, "No more published?" Noted in the preface as the "first History and Directory of Doniphan County, Kansas." Prints the state constitution, the inaugural address of Abraham Lincoln, a table of distances from Washington to major towns and cities, voting statistics for the presidential election of 1864, and "Doniphan County Soldiers' Register" listing all the county's men who fought in the Civil War, with many figures and much information regarding the county, state, and country. Contains numerous advertisements for merchants and industries.
