New York and London: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1933. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. The first American edition of the author's first full-length work. Orwell (1903-50) chronicles the time he spent living in poverty in London and Paris, recounting his experiences working casual manual labor jobs and living as a vagabond on the fringes of society. Octavo. Original mauve cloth binding, with purple and black stamping, and pictorial endpapers. A bit of dust staining to the top edge. The spine is somewhat faded, with minor wear to the corners and tips; else very good.
Sinopsis
Down and Out in Paris and London, published in 1933, is the first full-length work by the English author George Orwell. It is a story in two parts on the theme of poverty in the two cities. The first part is a picaresque account of living on the breadline in Paris and the experience of casual labour in restaurant kitchens.
