Full leather red morocco binding by Morrell with five gilt-ruled raised bands to spine, gilt titles on black panels, gilt coaching vignettes within ornate decorative borders to other panels; front & rear covers with triple fillet gilt outer borders stopped at corners with gilt floral motiv; gilt decorated edges & gilt decorated inner borders over marbled end-papers; illustrated by twelve enchanting colour plates and an additional decorative title page with also the gilt illustrated front cover & spine from the original binding in near fine condition bound in on pages at the rear. The history and practice of coaching entertainingly offered in the reminiscences of C. R. S. Birch Reynardson of Holywell Hall, Lincolnshire, who states in his introduction: "that though educated at Eton I did not learn much there but mischief, & that though my education was supposed to be finished at Cambridge I did not learn much there but to drive coaches." Although all plates are present two are not bound at the pages listed (p.59 is at p.63 & p.128 is at p,134) Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. xxi + 230. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. faint offsetting (browning) to some pages facing illustrations. no Dust Jacket as published.. Top edge gilt - bright, rich condition.
