McNally was a Professor of East European history at Boston College who specialised in books about horror, and researched the origins of the Dracula legend. Here he focuses on the story of Countess Elizabeth Bathory, the ancient 'vampire' of Transylvania who was reputed to have murdered hundreds of young women in the belief that their blood would keep her young. He looks to separate the known facts from the legend. A fascinating work. A really nice copy in nr Fine condition. Pages are bright and clean with no markings or inscriptions, only a very neat stamp from a previous owner on the title page. Otherwise perhaps read just once.
