London: Henry G. Bohn, 1858 . Leather. Good. 11" by 7.5". Not Stated. A complete, two-volume set of this illustrated study of fashion and decorations from the Middle Ages, written by Henry Shaw. Bound in rebacked quarter morocco with paper-covered boards. Complete in two volumes. Compiled by British businessman and author, Henry Shaw. This comprehensive study presents an overview of dresses and decorations of the Middle Ages, with Volume I focusing on the Anglo-Norman period and the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, while Volume II surrounds the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. With examples of warrior clothing, religious garments, regal wear, head dresses, chalices and much more. Wonderfully illustrated with thirty-eight colour plates to Volume I and a further fifty-six to Volume II. Collated, complete. With a previous owner's ink inscription of R. M. White, Alice Hinds and "Dashwood" to the front endpaper. Bound in rebacked quarter morocco with paper-covered boards, with original spine and spine label laid down. Externally, sound, with rubbing to the extremities, causing slight loss to the boards. The odd mark to boards. Endpapers have been renewed, with an inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with occasional scattered spotting. In Volume II, there is a tide mark to the tail of the first thirty-four pages, including the title page, and to the head of the last thirty pages. Good
