Illustrations, photographs, sources, index. The covers and spine are lightly edgeworn, the dust jacket is creased and rubbed with a few chips and soil marks, and there is some underlining in the text. "Charles Kingsley was born, appropriately enough, in the same year as Queen Victoria -- appropriately, for if there ever lived such a mythical figure as a typical Victorian, Kingsley might well be that man".
