OCLC: 15607732 John Johnston Parker (1885–1958) was a U.S. judge who failed confirmation to the Supreme Court by one vote. He was also the U.S. alternate judge at the Nuremberg Trials of Nazi war criminals and later served on the United Nations' International Law Commission. After serving as special assistant to the Attorney General of the United States in 1923, Parker was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond. He became Chief Judge of that Court in 1931 and served in that capacity until his death in 1958. In 1930, Parker was nominated by President Herbert Hoover to the United States Supreme Court, but was defeated by one vote in the Senate as a result of political opposition.
