This is a catalogue of a collection of American books illustrated for the most part with woodcuts and wood engravings in the Princeton University Library. The catalogue in the main volume, published in 1958, consists of two main parts: I. American Book Illustration prior to the Nineteenth Century and II. American Book Illustration in the Nineteenth Century. Entries in Part I appear in chronological order from 1670 to 1800 and over 192 books are described. Entries in Part II appear in alphabetical order by illustrator from Adams to Young and over 1110 books are described. 124 illustrations appear in the main volume and there are three indexes to the main material: Illustrators and Engravers, Authors, and Titles. The catalogue in the supplement volume, published in 1968, has the same organization as the main volume with over 90 books described in Part I and over 614 books described in Part II. 51 illustrations appear in the supplement and there are three indexes to the supplement material.
