Descripción:
London; Nelson and Sons, 1862., 1862. Hard Cover. First Thus. Octavo, pp. 340. 5 engraved plates with tissue guards, including frontispiece. Full reeded maroon cloth with gilt titles and decoration to spine; aeg; primrose yellow endpapers. Spine lightly sunned; spine tips and corners rubbed. Scattered foxing, heavier to tissue guards. Contemporary gift inscription to second blank, to Anna Earle [or Carle] from her friends Mrs and the Misses Davey, dated in year of publication. A Very Good copy. Extended by four chapters and substantially revised, the work was written in an attempt to train young girls to "connect happiness or sorrow with conduct and character" and reinforce religious teachings and morals. While plenty of similar volumes were available aimed at young men, this volume attempted to redress the gender imbalance to give guidance to females.
