Sobre este artículo
[LGBTQ] [Pulp] Marijane Meaker writing under the pen name "Vin Packer." also known as "Ann Aldrich". The Evil Friendship. Greenwich CT: Gold Medal Books, 1958. First printing and first edition, as stated. 191 pages, 4" x 7." Front wrap bears bright, colorful illustration of two women; one is consoling the other. Tagline reads: "Vin Packer's latest study of the tragedy of forbidden love." Marijane Meaker assumed various pseudonyms throughout her career; in the 60s, she penned five nonfiction lesbian novels under the name Ann Aldrich. Meaker used "Vin Packer" when writing tales of suspense. The Evil Friendship is based on the 1954 Parker-Hulme murder case, which also served as the basis for the 1994 film Heavenly Creatures. Two teenage girls fall in love with each other, and their mutual obsession takes a dark turn when they decide to murder one of their mothers. Meaker was one of few women at the time writing Lesbian pulp novels, adding a layer of authenticity to her stories. She is known for her "pro-lesbian" style, which was rare for the time, as many novels had to end in death or mental anguish to avoid censorship. She was romantically involved with fellow author Patricia Highsmith and wrote about their relationship in a biography published in 2003. Very good condition.
