Dorchester New Brunswick Canada: Carl A. Nelson Book. Very Good. circa 1930, broadside playbill, measuring 24 x 9 inches, (63 x 26 cm), promoting Nelson's All Talking Pictures, Photo Plays. Carl A. Nelson (Neilson) was born in Denmark, He came to Canada with his widowed mother and sister settling in New Denmark, New Brunswick. A pioneer in the movie business, he began by showing silent movies in communitites along the Upper St. John River valley. He operated the Star Theatre in Hartland N.B. during 1916-18. With the arrival of sound movies Nelson toured with his All Talking Pictures. This poster dates from the time he was based in Dorchester, New Brunswick. From the mid 30's to the mid 40's Nelson operated a movie theatre in Parrrsboro, Nova Scotia. He retired to New Denmark, N.B. in 1947. A very fragile item of ephemera of the early days of motion pictures in Canada. In remarkable condition considering its fragility. Because of the items size I have had to use 2 scans. Please keep in mind it is all of one piece. With thanks to David Folster, New Brunswick author, No 1 Red Sox fan and avid movie buff..

Single leaf, plate size: 400 x 300mm [15.75 x 11.8 inches], paper size: 455 x 340mm [17.9 x 13.4 inches]. Condition: a very good impression with bright coloring, with little darkening of paper. Outside of the impression there are generous margins that were in contact with an acidic matte. These margins are darkened by the acid of the matte board but are still supple. The print was attached to the matte with paper tape, a 0.25 inch is attached around the edge of the back of the print (see photo). This print is an exemplar of the "Optical Print/Vue d'Optique." The Mutual Orange Distributors (MOD) was founded in Redlands, California, in 1906 as a cooperative marketing association representing citrus growers in California. Within a few years, the coop included citrus growers in western Arizona. In 1955, MOD changed its name to Pure Gold, originally the brand name for fruit grown by the approximately 2,500 MOD growers. Sunkist took over the Pure Gold trademark when the co-op closed in 1987 due to housing developments replacing the citrus fields and the shrinking number of packing plants. This booklet explains the history of the citrus-growing culture in California and Arizona and provides information on the variety of oranges, lemons, and grapefruit grown and their cultivation and packaging. A map on the back shows the regions represented by the Pure Gold cooperative. Scarce, none located in OCLC. B&w illustrations and halftone photographs. (11"x8-1/2")

A" Leopold Von Ranke a review of his life. by Herbert Baxter Adams;Adams was born to Nathaniel Dickinson Adams and Harriet (Hastings) Adams in Shutesbury, Massachusetts. On his mother's side, he was a descendant of Thomas Hastings who came from the East Anglia region of England to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1634.[1] Adams received his early training in the Amherst, Massachusetts public schools and Phillips Exeter Academy. He graduated from Amherst College in 1872. In 1873 Adams traveled to Europe to study and write. In 1874 he then moved to Heidelberg, Germany to pursue the Ph.D. degree. There he was influenced by Johann Gustav Droysen and Johann Kaspar Bluntschli, the latter also becoming his mentor.
