Undated edition of the best-selling Victorian novel by the English writer Ellen Wood (1814-1887), originally serialised in 1860-61 and first published in three volumes in 1861. 520pp illustrated with black and white plates. Blue boards decorated with orange, green and black floral design. All edges gilt, black endpapers. Spine faded, front endpaper has been removed with pinking shears, minor bumping to spine and corners and slight foxing present to edges and margins, otherwise good copy with no inscriptions..
