Many reasons may be cited for these lacunae, not all of which pertain to the loss of native culture through extinction of the natives themselves or through their acquiring 'civilized habits' in the course of cross-breeding with alien strains. It is largely through neglect in exploiting the latent possibilities for reclaiming ethnological information among groups so reduced in number and tribal spirit as to thought scientifically insignificant......." ---- from the Introduction.
